RE: Life After Twilight Princess
As long as Miyamoto is part of the Zelda team we're going to have problems.
Eiji and Shiggy clash. Aonuma does something, and then Miyamoto reverses it. FSA was going to have a deeper plot and stronger focus on story, but Miyamoto ditched it. The full ending stayed for a while but was nixed towards the end of development because Miyamoto thought there shouldn't be too much story in the game. Miyamoto has stated time and time again that the story is not important to him. It is an afterthought. Zelda development is as follows: 1. A "gimmick" is decided upon. Dual-World, Time Travel, Sailing, etc. 2. Dungeons are created. 3. Scenarios are created to link the dungeons. 4. An overall story is created to link the scenarios. Aonuma has stated that he cares about the story, but everytime he tries to do something related to story Miyamoto intervenes. Miyamoto, you brought us the franchise, you're a genius, and Ocarina of Time is masterpiece - but if you're giving Aonuma the reins to the series, then give it to him, trust him, and stop intervening and upending the tea-table at the last moment. Majora's Mask is Aonuma's baby. And it was a fantastic game. If it had as many dungeons as OoT or more it would be ranked above it on many people's lists. Since Aonuma most every Zelda title has tried to innovate and be original in some way, but they've all fallen short because of this upending the tea-table nonsense. Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland may be Aonuma's answer oddly enough. Lots of hints and tidbits to the overall plot are scattered around for fans. I don't think Miyamoto has much involvement in that. Miyamoto felt that Link's Crossbow Training would be better than a second full-adventure set in the Twilight Princess arc. Star Fox and Mario are supposed to be the guniea pig genres. Testing new things and showing off system power. Leave it out of the Zelda series. The only thing I would be against is voice acting. I've yet to see voice acting in a game that's totally impressed. Not to say I haven't heard good voice acting. I have. Terrific voice acting. But, it needs to be at another level. It doesn't leave the game so to speak. It hasn't hit the level of feature films yet I don't think. ![]() |
